CMU MoonRanger Mechanical Design Lead
01/2025 - 05/2025

MoonRanger, the first rover engineered to autonomously search for subsurface water ice signatures on the lunar surface, will explore the Moon's South Pole. The rover builds on the Iris mission, the smallest rover ever to operate on the Moon and the first American, university-built, student-led lunar rover.
For this project, I implemented mechanical design updates to several exterior rover subsystems in SolidWorks, including structural interfaces and protective assemblies. I designed and fabricated a dedicated test fixture to evaluate these components. Additionally, I performed finite-element–based modal and structural analyses in SolidWorks Simulation to verify stiffness, natural frequency targets, and structural integrity relative to mission environments.
